Today the children had a great discussion about lines and line segments.  Through pair sharing, the children were able to come up with some excellent characteristics of lines and line segments.   The children realized that if there were no line segments, then we would not be able to have shapes.  What a great observation!  Have them share some of their new learnings with you at home!  Below are some challenges the children can do at home to practice creating and reading lines and line segments and understanding two new words:  intersecting and parallel.

** Intersecting lines are lines that cross at some point.

** Parallel lines are lines that will never cross no matter how far you continue the line.  They are equal distance apart at all times.
