Since the start of our time together, we have been learning about ourselves as individuals and us as a whole community.  We’ve been working hard to learn about our routines, expectations and responsibilities.  We also been deciding on our classroom commitments so that we can all have a fun, safe and respectful environment to learn and discover in.

Getting to know who we are and who makes up our community leads nicely into out first Unit of Inquiry, Group Membership, which we will be launching in the coming weeks.  As we begin to unfold this big idea, we are asking for family support.  Parents, it will benefit your child significantly if you and extended family members find times to talk about who makes up your family, experiences in the past that your family has gone through, how these past experiences have had an effect on your family and daily lives and how new experiences will affect the future of your family.

Below is our unit understanding and essential questions that will help your child gain a greater understanding of the big idea.  I’ve also included key vocabulary that will be used in this unit.  Any insight you have that you’d like to share with us is welcomed!  Feel free to contact me if you’d like to come in and share a personal family story, a read aloud that goes with this unit or items that represent part of your family history.
