John Joseph, the Brain Man, has inspired a lot of continuing discussion in the classroom since his talk last week. Our Morning Check-in Survey questions this week have all been about brain related topics. One day we¬† learned about fancy professor words like “axons, neurons and dendrites” and how dendrites are important to learning. Looking at the diagram of 2 neurons, it’s easy to see how we should strive to have the brain filled with dendrite-rich neurons!!! After watching a video from John Joseph and then seeing the video of the teachers acting out the axon/dendrite model, the Smartians of course just had to give it a go as well! After all, hands-on learning goes hand in hand with “World Two” learners – learning by experiencing something! Ms. Ness timed us and as we practised more and more, our time went lower and lower. It is amazing to act out how the brain’s dendrites and axons work together to take in and send out messages…
