This wonderful site, available through Scholastic, is now found directly on Mrs. McGrath’s blog. Please see the righthand side, scrolling down a little until you see the “Book Wizard – Finding a Just Right Book” image. When you click on this, you can then go in and us it to search for the book level of a particular title OR put in a book level and be given a list of matching books. At the Parent-Teacher conferences, I will give you the results of the reading assessments for the “JUST RIGHT” independent level of reading for your child (in the format of a letter level from A-Z). This is a way of knowing that your child is reading an appropriate level of book to help them grow as a reader. One end of the scale is “Holiday Books” and the other end of the scale is “Frustrating/Challenging Books”… a child should spend most of their time reading in their “Just Right” zone. Of course the other factor is INTEREST – the book has to fit the child’s interest!! But the lists generated by Scholastic are often made up of over 500+ books (!), so you should be able to find something!! Check out the direct link and enjoy this tool…
