One of the fun learning experiences we had this week involved delectable M&M sweets. The students were asked to make predictions, weigh their packs in grams for accuracy and calculate sums before eating them. After collecting their data, the students created a bar/column graph to show their findings. The students needed to include the title, scale and labels on the X and Y axes. Next, they worked on converting their fractions of colours and represent them as decimals and percentages. What wonderings were there from observations? Why did some people have more red than brown M&Ms? Why were the weights different, even though the package is labelled 40 grams? So much learning!
