To get students thinking more about literature, several of our faculty members were part of a book talk which was held in the Little Theater on Monday. Students were able to hear about each person’s favorite literature and his/her reason why it is a favorite. Some of the reasons students found out about why a book can become one’s favorite are: they are traditional stories read in their family, they identify or connect themselves with a character, and they are entertaining due to a special/creative feature in the text..
Then students wondered about what are the different types of literature/what are the different forms of writing. So we headed to the library to do a book sort with our wonderful librarian! Students collaborated in small groups to sort various books she had ready for us. Some of the types of literature/genre students discovered were: poetry, graphic novels (comics), script/plays, wordless picture books, picture story books, biographies, novels and novellas.
