To help organize the various ways students have learned to represent a number (drawing, expanded form, chart and word form), students were introduced to the number sense organizer. After teacher modeling, students were given the following problem to solve. They showed their thinking on the organizer.
Conner has 34 toys cars and Ellis has 53 toy cars. How many do they have all together?
We will be using this organizer the rest of the year when solving problems with two and/or three-digit numbers. This tool will also help students when we learn regrouping. Please click on the pictures below to see an example.
