It’s a Mix

Firstly, a message from our ES Eco team. This week’s blog is a mixed bag. Here are our sneaky submarines, captured in action. Some of the pictures below are catch ups from previous events. Others show that we’ve been very busy with numerous activities, and so much to report. The rockets, the design challenge, were exciting […]

Sneaky Submarines

Grade 4 students were tasked with constructing a submarine. It needed to sink slowly and gracefully underwater. Only recycled materials were permitted in the making of this. The cargo, like the boat, was 30 marbles. One could see that our students asked good questions, had thoughtful ideas on how to tackle the sinking problem and […]

Visiting Grade 8

This week, our Grade 4 class visited a Grade 8 class. The Grade 8 students helped the kangas through cleverly created games, understand the responsibilites and expectations that come with the transition to Middle School. As Grade 8 get ready for their move to High School, they impressed on Grade 4 students, the need to enjoy their time, bearing […]

With our Buddies

Last Friday, we met with our Grade 1 buddies. The students chatted about the plants they bought on a fieldtrip to Market Market. They were investigating the lives of their plants and then making a funny movie. For the movie, the Grade 4 buddies needed to have the buddies chat about what plants require to […]

Humpty’s Day on the Wall

Our class paired up with Ms. Markovich’s to investigate best designs to protect Humpty Dumpty from a daring, yet perilous fall from the third floor of ES. Here is evidence of these design challenges as recorded and reported on these videos.  Our students are certainly busy thinking like scientists.

Tuning into Science

[tylr-slidr userID=”” groupID=””][/tylr-slidr] To tune into our science unit of inquiry, our class joined Ms. Markovich’s in a tussle to see who had the slowest egg. The students helped us decide the conditions in which we should conduct this test. Being good sports, we agreed that the egg drop from the third floor of ES […]

M & M Maths

[tylr-slidr userID=”” groupID=””][/tylr-slidr]   One of the fun learning experiences we had this week involved delectable M&M sweets. The students were asked to make predictions, weigh their packs in grams for accuracy and calculate sums before eating them. After collecting their data, the students created a bar/column graph to show their findings. The students needed to include the title, scale and […]

Fraction Feasts

This week demonstrated that Kangas can cook! They applied their understanding of fractions, showed their strategies and did their calculations effectively in their presentations. The students used many creative ways to display their projects and everyone enjoyed the feasts after each session. Thank you, parents for your support with this delicious project.   [tylr-slidr userID=”” groupID=””][/tylr-slidr]
