ISM’s Pre K - 12 technology standards will be based on the NETS standards from ISTE, and we are currently in the process of formulating indicators for the standards. As the school gets standards in place for the various subject areas and departments start entering units into Atlas Rubicon, all teachers will need to become more familiar with the NETS standards, as meeting these will require some integration of technology use in other subjects.
Common concerns for teachers when the topic of technology integration is brought up include the time it takes to learn the required technology skills, the time required to plan activities, as well as the time it takes to actually carry out the plans. Ensuring curricular relevance is also of vital importance.
Here’s a tool that may well be of great help for teachers: Atomic Learning is a site offering video tutorials on a range of software applications and online tools, and ISM has an Atomic Learning account for all faculty and students. Atomic Learning has now correlated their tutorials with the NETS standards, which greatly simplifies things for teachers looking for ideas on how to implement a particular NETS standard with their classes. Teachers can now search the Atomic Learning database for suitable activities for a given age level and standard.
You can find the searchable NETS/tutorial database on the Atomic Learning website: http://movies.atomiclearning.com/k12/statestandards
You can find the link to Atomic Learning on our portal site, and our school username and password will appear if you hold your mouse cursor still over the link on the My Resources panel in the portal.
